Reynolds stamp of approval.

Sven Cycles get seal of approval from one of the oldest bike tube manufacturers in the world.

Known to cyclists all over the world, great British manufacturer, Reynolds Steel, were founded in 1923. They quickly became the tubing of choice for competitive cyclists, carrying numerous Tour de France winners over the line in the ensuing years. But, global accolades aside, they also represented the dreams of a small boy from Chiswick.

When Mog and I were growing up, our first encounter with Reynolds was admiring the iconic Raleigh bikes we saw racing up and down the streets outside our homes. Despite being unable to afford one, I knew every inch of those bikes and, even from that young age, I recognised the value of the Reynolds badge. To me it was iconic, it represented quality British bikes, and the freedom and excitement that owning one could give you.

This feeling never left me, and when I first set up Sven Cycles I was thrilled to be working so closely with Reynolds. Over time we’ve built up a strong relationship, and you can imagine how chuffed I was when they gave their permission for us to do a reproduction of their classic badge. The badge says: Sven Cycleworks Reynolds; and it takes pride of place on every Sven semi-custom bike.

Cyclists all around the world know Reynolds, they represent British Cycling to so many people. So, for me this is a real stamp of approval from a quality British manufacturer — and it’s also a personal joy.

Reynolds is a smaller company now and we have a really good relationship. They’re great to deal with because they’re big in terms of their appeal and quality, but small enough for us to speak to the person making the part on the factory floor. We often redesign elements, changing lengths or widths by millimetres, and they’re always happy to accommodate us. They are behind us 110 % — which is fantastic.

Obviously, we’re huge bike enthusiasts here at Sven; we can talk about bikes all day — and long into the night. We love the history of cycling, the legacy and traditions of bike building and, for us, the Reynolds/Sven Cycleworks badge represents our small part in that rich history.
